"This work is unlike any other, in its range of rich, conjuring imagery and its dexterity, its smart voice. Carroll-Hackett doesn’t spare us—but doesn’t save us—she draws a blueprint of power and class with her unflinching pivot: matter-of-fact and tender." —Jan Beatty

Daily Prompt Love <3 Doing v Being

10 February 2019

Talked with a friend yesterday about the difference we need to remember:  between being a human doing and human being.  We’re driven to do, and we forget how much we need and should value rest.

Make art about rest, about the struggle to rest, about your restful place, about finding real rest.

Make art inspired by this line from one of my favorite poets, Pattian Rogers:

Mothers, fathers, our kind, tell me again that death doesn’t matter. Tell me it’s just a limitation of vision ,a fold of landscape,a deep flax-and-poppy-filled gully hidden on the hill….

Because I Needed to Stand in the Light <3

The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.  -Ming-Dao Deng

Daily Prompt Catch-Up <3 Naming & Healing

12/5/2015

I haven’t put up a Christmas tree since 2011, the year both my husband and brother walked on to the next life. This year, I’m finally putting one up again, and covering it with crazy little angels I’ve been handmaking from clay and fabric for several weeks. I’m calling it my Healing Tree. Make art about healing.
