I collect photographs from thrift stores, other people’s pictures sold, I guess, in estate sales and such. I carry some of them with me when I travel, sometimes keep some of them on my night stand, wait for them to tell me their stories, or just so I can say that someone remembers them.
I scanned in some of my favorites.
Make art inspired by one of these photos.

Been hearing (and singing) this song since I woke up.
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Make art about circles, inside circles, circling, unending spirals, cycles, the circles we inhabit, the circles we create.

I hate grocery shopping. But today while grudging my way through it, I ran into a retired colleague whom I adore and haven’t seen in a while. He made me laugh, like always. And I laughed through the rest of the shopping.
Make art about something good arising from something you usually dread.

Dreamt I was lighting candles, thousands and thousands of candles, as far as I could see.
Make art about the power small lights.

The rains have stopped and and the hadrwoods have awakened, and the drive home from campus today was a wander through every shade of green. The Guardian Oak is full and bright, and the woods are thickening. I stood with giants, all of us reaching for the sky.
Make art about the greening.

My daily postcards to my elected reps have been mailed, my phone calls made, but my most important action today is to support and empower and encourage my community of writers and artists, however I can
🙂
Tomorrow, April 1, begins National Poetry Month, and I run a writing group on here providing art and writing prompts to anyone who passes by and is interested. For the nonwriters here, we have a tradition of celebrating Poetry Month by doing something called PAD–Poem a Day
🙂 But whether it’s poems, stories, dreams, or journal entries, celebrating spring by writing something every day is both inspiring and empowering, and I think, needed now more than ever, this beautiful raising of our collective voices, strengthening our creative spirits in a political culture that seems determined to dim them.
So please come play with us
🙂 Celebrate spring and the power of your creative spirits! You’re amazing! And we need you!

Make art about the Other, about Otherness, about being the Other, about fearing the Other, about discovering the Other.

So in the last few months, I’ve experienced a broken pipe, a broken arm, and broken car.
Make art about fixing what’s broken.
